What do you love about winter?
That's the topic of the last week in our No Winter Whining meme.... are you up for the challenge?I was never a fan of winter, in fact I hated it... but over the years, I've grown to appreciate and love what winter has to offer... that's not to say I am in love with the cold, but I've learned to accept it and wear warm clothes!
But I have found there are lots of things that makes it easier to live through this long cold season....
Cozy fireplaces and hot tea...
....puffy quilts and warm socks.......woolen mittens and slow cooker meals!
Frosty lashes...
...frosty noses...
...and imprints in the snow!
I like the way the snow makes even the most unsightly "mess" look pretty!
...and I like the way the snow weighs heavily on the boughs of the trees, creating a natural tunnel!
Winter is a time when I work on leisurely crafts, with needle and thread, paint and brush.
And even though temperatures may dip below freezing, there's an illusion of warmth in the way the snow covers the land like a warm fuzzy blanket... lending a sense of peace to an otherwise chaotic life...
....and protecting that which lies underneath, awaiting the first warm tinges of spring!
Yes, the winter that tells our bodies to slow down and preserve our warmth, is also the time in which both body and mind rests and regroups as though in preparation for the excitement that will come with spring's tender touch.
I have grown to accept winter and all it has to offer, and as the long cold season lingers on, I have plenty of time to dream about the waiting spring season that I will gladly step into and embrace as winter melts away and becomes just another memory of another year gone by!
Happy life!

Very nice thoughts and I loved the noses and eyes . . . I missed your nose though!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy a Winter Day . . .
Wonderful photos! Will be linking up shortly. Thanks for hosting these-- have been interesting and fun!
ReplyDeleteHappy Winter Heather. You are right about Winter making us slow down and take life at a little slower pace. I really enjoy that part because Summer always finds me way to busy. VBG Love you photos. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteLovely photos ! I like winter now . I never used to but since I have been retired and able to get out to photograph more I enjoy winter's wonderland and all it has to offer to us photographers ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely and shows the beauty of winter. I love winter... It is our time to hibernate and my need to recharge. With that said, living in the south, I am not always given the opportunity. Stay warm and safe. Bonnie
ReplyDeleteIf my winter were as beautiful and snowy as yours, I would enjoy it more. I definitely don't dislike winter at all, I'm just tired of how brown it is here. We had the tiniest bit of snow the other day and I was so excited. I love how winter gives my garden a chance to rest and renew itself. Plus, I'm so busy during the school year, I don't have much time to garden, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather, for making this first half of winter fly by for me. It appears your time has been spent with rejuvenation not hibernation this year. I enjoyed the memories of snow country most of all. Have a good one . . . . and thanks.
ReplyDeleteHeather it's been fun, and I like seeing winter through your eyes. And each time I start to complain about it I think to myself...no winter whining. It works.

I have never been a fan of winter, but I do agree that all the snow makes everything look so pretty, bright, and clean. I like your attitude! Love the photos of the snow on the horses' eyelashes. I don't think I've ever seen that!
ReplyDeleteAs we role farther into February I am at a loss to find anything I like about winter. Good for you for looking on the bright side!

Another wonderful post! I have followed along, and enjoyed, your "No Winter Whining," but didn't join in since we have been in the brown, with very little snow, this winter. I also enjoy the time to work "with needle and thread, paint and brush."
ReplyDeleteHello Heather girl !
ReplyDeleteYour boys and girls look cute with winter eyelashes and whiskers : )
February is a bit of a pain to get through during winter especially when I have NOT kept any resolutions about the treadmill etc .. but we won't mention that OK ? LOL
I appreciate the snow covering my garden .. we truly needed that since a few years without had really dropped a punch to the gardens that set them back.
So .. if cornered, I say YAAAAAAAAAAAA!! for snow and ground water filling up !!
Joy : )
Heather, I particularily love those frosty eyelashes on your beautiful horses. I've always believed that there is a good side to anything, sometimes you just have to look a little harder than others. I am enjoying reading this series and learning to appreciate your snowy, cold weather vicariously. Ann
ReplyDeleteThis meme has helped me to make it through winter with a more positive attitude. Thanks! I still don't like how it drags on and on, but it does have some value. Now I'm ready to think spring (even though it's still many weeks away for me).
ReplyDeleteHi, lovely blog! I found you through PlantPostings. This is my first time participating. New follower :) Love your post and photos!
ReplyDeleteI am a first time visitor, compliments of FlowerLady, and of all the pictures - from all the blogs that I've seen over the years, these three (horse and both dogs) are just incredible! Of course I'm a dog lover. In fact I prefer them over people from time to time. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blog . . .interesting blogger.
